Cory Bolles Death, Obituary: I-75 Manatee, Man Killed After Truck Makes Illegal Turn Into His Path

MANATEE COUNTY — What began as slowed traffic along I-75 ended in tragedy Monday when a tractor-trailer allegedly attempted an illegal U-turn, killing 28-year-old Cory Bolles.

The crash occurred near the Hillsborough–Manatee County line as motorists navigated congestion tied to a vehicle fire near Sun City Center. Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol said Bolles was heading north when the truck, driven by Julio Dones Rosa, abruptly tried to cross into the southbound lanes, striking Bolles’ Toyota Corolla.

Bolles was pulled from the wreckage and rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Rosa was arrested at the scene and initially charged with reckless driving causing serious injury. Authorities are reviewing whether additional or upgraded charges are warranted.
