In Loving Memory of Evelyn Rorie (1943–2026)

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Evelyn Rorie, who died on the evening of February 7, 2026, at the age of 82, following a tragic motor vehicle accident. Evelyn’s passing has left the Whiteville community in mourning, as she was a woman of quiet strength, grace, and deep devotion to her family and community.

The Whiteville Police Department reports that Evelyn was traveling as a passenger in a silver Dodge Ram driven by her husband when the collision occurred near the intersection of JK Powell Boulevard and West Burkhead Street. Despite the immediate response of emergency services, Evelyn was pronounced dead upon arrival at Columbus Regional Hospital. Her husband was airlifted to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition, and the other driver was treated and released.

Evelyn was deeply loved for her warm personality, her kindness, and her ability to make everyone feel valued and cared for. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, known for her compassionate heart and her ability to bring comfort and joy to those around her. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
